A hosting control panel for a small VPS

What a web hosting panel needs from a VPS, what it installs, and how much memory it leaves for your sites. Read from KLYRN Web.

How small is too small

KLYRN Web needs 1 GB of memory, 10 GB of free disk, root and outbound network access. It runs on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS on x86_64. The installer refuses arm64.

Under 4 GB of memory the installer adds a swap file, but only if the server has none. At idle the panel's two processes use about 27 MB between them, so most of the memory is left for nginx, PHP and MariaDB.

Start from a clean server

A panel owns the web server, PHP and database configuration. KLYRN refuses a server where another panel, Apache, or a hand-configured nginx or MariaDB is already running, and names the command to stop it. Order the VPS with a plain Ubuntu 24.04 image.

Install in one command

curl -fsSL https://get.klyrn.com | sudo bash

The script checks the system, downloads the signed release and verifies it before anything runs. Eleven stages follow. Each checks whether it already ran, verifies its own result, and can be rolled back. If the connection drops, run it again and it resumes.

What you get

nginx tuned from the VPS's own CPU, memory and disk, with the rule behind each value shown. PHP 8.3 FPM with one pool per site, each under its own Unix user. MariaDB 10.11 with root over the socket only. A firewall that denies everything inbound except SSH, 80, 443 and 7443.

On top of that come sites, domains, free certificates, mail, databases, WordPress, Node.js apps and backups that leave the server.

Keep one site from starving the rest

On a small VPS one busy site can take everything. KLYRN gives each account its own systemd slice, with limits on CPU, memory and processes that the kernel enforces. When an account runs out of memory, only its own process is stopped.

What it costs

The Free edition runs one server with up to five sites, with no card and no account. Pro is $9 per server a month and removes the site limit. cPanel's Solo licence was $29.99 a month for one account when we read it on 6 September 2026. See pricing and the comparison.
