The five hosting control panels worth comparing in 2026

cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin, CyberPanel and KLYRN side by side: what each licence counts, what it costs and who each one suits.

How we chose

These are the five panels people ask us about most. Every fact about the other four comes from that vendor's own pages, read on 6 September 2026 and linked from our comparison page. Prices change, so check the vendor's page on the day you decide.

We make one of the five. Read the rest with that in mind, and judge each panel by the questions that matter to your servers.

cPanel and WHM

The panel most hosting customers already know. It counts accounts, and its published price starts at $29.99 a month for one. It runs Apache through EasyApache 4, with nginx available as a reverse proxy.

It suits a host whose customers expect cPanel by name and whose sites rely on .htaccess. There is a 15-day trial and no free edition.

Plesk

Plesk counts domains and is the one panel here that also runs on Windows Server, with IIS. On Linux it runs Apache with nginx. There is a 14-day trial.

It suits agencies with Windows sites or a mixed fleet. We leave its prices out because its pricing page carried offers whose dates had passed. Read them on Plesk's own page.

DirectAdmin

DirectAdmin counts accounts and domains, and starts at $5 a month for two accounts. It supports six web servers, including Apache and LiteSpeed, on the RHEL family, Debian and Ubuntu, and it runs on ARM.

It suits a host who wants a low entry price and wide operating system choice. It has no trial. It offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

CyberPanel

CyberPanel's core is free and open source under GPL-3.0, with paid add-ons from $59 a year. It runs OpenLiteSpeed, with LiteSpeed Enterprise as a paid option.

On price alone it wins. It suits someone comfortable with LiteSpeed who wants an open source core.

KLYRN

KLYRN counts servers. The Free edition is one server and five sites. Pro is $9 per server a month, and a paid edition never limits sites, domains, databases or accounts. It runs nginx on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, x86_64 only, and it hosts mail.

It suits someone running many sites on a few servers who wants migration with a preview before DNS moves. It does not run .htaccess, it is not open source, and 1.0 is its first stable release. The migration page shows how a cPanel account moves.

Which one to pick

Start from what your sites need. Many .htaccess rules point to Apache, so cPanel or DirectAdmin. Windows sites point to Plesk. A tight budget points to CyberPanel. Many sites on few servers, with the price fixed per server, point to KLYRN.

Whatever you choose, try a real site on a spare server first. Our seven questions before you switch help with that test.
